Cold Storage – an important segment of California’s industrial market.

From food distribution and agriculture to pharmaceuticals and life sciences, temperature-controlled facilities play an important role in supporting our supply chain.

One thing that’s often overlooked is that cold storage doesn’t always define the entire project. Some facilities are designed exclusively for refrigerated or frozen storage, while others incorporate cold storage as one component of a larger industrial processing, manufacturing, or distribution operation. In many cases, it may represent only a portion of the overall building, yet it can significantly influence project design, energy and infrastructure needs, and the entitlement process.

Utility capacity, refrigeration systems, truck circulation, environmental planning, community outreach, permitting, and agency coordination all become important considerations. Evaluating these factors early provides developers with a better understanding of project requirements and potential pitfalls before significant investments are made.

As California’s industrial market continues to evolve, understanding the unique considerations associated with cold storage will become increasingly important.
